Today is a good day for a cup of coffee, and an even better day for a cup of coffee with a friend. Pick a coffee shop or neighborhood that you haven’t been to before. Sit, relax, enjoy each other’s company, and take in the new setting. The nice thing about grabbing a cup of coffee is that it’s short enough to squeeze into a busy schedule, but long enough to relax for a moment and chat with a friend.
I had been taking a new bus route for a few days when a small café along the route caught my eye. It sat perched in a Flatiron shaped building (think New York, NY) overlooking a fascinating cityscape. The view was not overly glamorous, but it was endlessly interesting to admire. I added it to my mental list of things to do: grab a leisurely cup of coffee and soak in the view.
We hopped off the bus a stop early and made our way up the hill, walking through small gardens that lined the sidewalk.
We chose a booth at the very front of the café. It was squeezed into the narrowest part of the building and had a window overlooking the neighborhood.
Each neighborhood in Barcelona has its charm. Here, in the northern part of Gràcia bordering Sant Gervasi, it seems to be the unassuming little garden paths that wander in and out, under bridges, and alongside playgrounds all while being slightly tucked away into the hillside.
Having finished our coffees, we took the long way home (we certainly had enough caffeine in our systems to do so, it was strong), chatting and wondering where our next coffee in Barcelona would lead us.
