Though the original Cinnamon Bun recipe in the post above does not call for icing, it wouldn’t be quite right without it. This Homemade Cream Cheese Icing recipe is super simple and very quick to make. It may be one of the best things you can make from scratch in only a matter of minutes. Its perfect companion: Homemade Cinnamon Buns.
- 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla in medium bowl. Using electric mixer (or by hand), beat until smooth.
- Spread glaze on rolls. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Here again, we just mixed the icing by hand and it turned out great (no mixer needed). Not only is the icing perfect with the cinnamon buns, but you’ll also find yourself looking for other suitable candidates that you can top with the leftover icing. Icing topped cookies? Hmmm….
