Fontainebleau is a small town that sits about an hour outside of Paris. It is as magical as it is picturesque. The Palace and Park at Fontainebleau is the big draw, It also happens to be the inspiration for Disney’s Cinderella’s Castle. So if you are on vacation in Paris, consider a day trip to Fontainebleau. You can while away the afternoon in a pleasant state of dreaminess as you stroll in and out of ancient forests and palace grounds.
You can get to Fontainebleau by taking a train directly from Paris and then making the short walk into town. In addition to the palace, there are also some nice areas for hiking and bike riding nearby and along the grounds. The area just outside the palace is also well renowned for bouldering. While there, you may stumble across a handful of people picking mushrooms in the forests for dinner!
Just be sure when you catch the train from Paris that you are on the right train. We almost ended up on one that was headed for the train yard!
