Is there a beach or part of town that you’ve been dying to check out, but haven’t had the chance to go? Well, here’s your chance. Put aside a couple of hours and go for it. Make it a Saturday morning or evening activity. If you end up walking around for a few hours, getting some exercise, chalk it up to a day’s workout. Plus it may be a tad more fun than the gym.
The main beach in Barcelona (called Barceloneta) can get overwhelmingly crowded. Its pretty much like sardines out there, especially with the influx of summer tourists. After going to Barceloneta a few times, I hoped to be able to find a calmer, more peaceful spot. So I set out to explore a new beach nearby, just a few minutes walk away, near the Llacuna metro stop.
It turns out that this beach wasn’t as secluded as I had hoped. Plenty of beach-goers here too. Mission = not-totally-accomplished.
Though it wasn’t the beach of my dreams, I turned things around and set about discovering more about the neighborhood. I was able to check out some pretty neat little pockets of restaurants, garden paths, and sidewalk sculptures.
While I will keep the search for a new beach on my list of adventures, this was a pretty nice detour. So if you’re looking for something to do, try getting to know your town (or a neighboring town) a little bit better. Check out a beach you haven’t been to before, a park, or main street, and enjoy strolling around and getting some fresh air.
